Either as an addition to our FREE Discover the Capital Historical Highlights tour, or simply on its own, step back in time and experience the grit and glory of the ByWard Market: Ottawa’s oldest neighbourhood! Explore the rough-and-tumble days of Bytown — where Irish canal workers clashed in the Shiners’ War, French Canadian families fiercely protected their language and traditions, and lumberjacks boozed and brawled at the legendary Château Lafayette. From bustling Market Square to the powerful symbolism of the National Peacekeeping Memorial, this lively 2 hour tour uncovers the people, struggles, and incredible stories that shaped Canada’s capital. Join us and experience the Market like never before.

A Tour for Every Budget!

Ottawa Walking Tours believes everyone should have the opportunity to discover our incredible city’s rich history and vibrant culture, regardless of budget. That’s why we proudly offer two  “Pay What You Want” Public Tours. This approach allows us to share Ottawa’s amazing stories and history with everyone, ensuring accessibility while maintaining the high-quality, engaging tours we’re known for.

To show your appreciation of your guide’s knowledge, service and time, we request tips at the end of the tour. Generally a $25 per person, $10 per child 12 years and older tip is offered.

Although cash tips are preferred, we also accept tips via credit and debit card, as well as Apple, Google & Samsung Pay.
